GH Volunteer Update 11/3/06
Hi Everybody…

Plus, don’t forget to join us for the Volunteer Appreciation Event on Wednesday the 8th… its our opportunity to thank and celebrate with our volunteers for all that's been accomplished this past season – check for details below.
To all of you that took part in the past couple weeks of volunteer events – we'd like to send you a BIG thanks for your hard work, not to mention braving the rain, wind and cold! Whether you put the Head Start Garden to bed in one fowl swoop, celebrated Halloween with us at the Ypsilanti Farmers’ Market, or did some HEAVY lifting as we moved to our great new office space, we couldn’t have done it without you!
If this is the first Growing Hope volunteer update you’re receiving – thanks so much for your interest and I hope you enjoy getting to hear about all the upcoming events and ways to participate. – See you out and about…

1. VOL. NEEDED
Perry Garden Workday
Sun. Nov. 5th – 9-12pm
Were putting some finishing touches on The Perry Garden before closing for the winter – covering the garden beds, turning compost, and possibly dividing some last minute perennials. We’re especially looking for folks that know a bit about dividing perennials, anyone with a pick-up truck, and anyone with experience using a chipper/shredder (depending on the weather). Please call or email to RSVP or for more information.
2.
Volunteer Appreciation Event
Wed. Nov. 8th – 6-7:30pm
32 N. Washington Suite 11, Ypsilanti
Volunteers are what make our work fruitful and help the community grow… We very much appreciate all that our volunteers have contributed – big or small, and would like to invite those who have volunteered with us this past year to a little celebration! Families are welcome and light refreshments will be served. I very much hope to see you all there! (Please RSVP to rsvp@growinghope.net, or call 786.8401)
3. VOL. NEEDED
Volunteer Workday (location TBA – possibly indoors)
Sat. Nov. 11th 12-3pm
Join some great volunteers from UofM’s Circle K volunteer group, AND the youth volunteers of Plymouth’s YMCA as we close out the growing season for our gardens. Depending slightly on the weather, we’ll be closing down the Roots and Shoots garden and greenhouse, or working indoors to assemble and/or decorate some ‘made by GH’ rain barrels. Please call or email to RSVP, get directions, or ask questions.
--SPECIAL PROJECTS--
4. VOL. NEEDED
GH Newsletter Assistants – writers, InDesign users, etc.
On-going, flexible schedule
Volunteer by sharing your skills in writing and design… We are looking for a few good writers to lend a hand writing and editing newsletter articles for our upcoming GH Newsletters. Are you familiar with InDesign? We are also looking for someone interested in helping us format our furture Newsletters (we have a template, just need the extra experienced hands)
If you think you might like to write an article, edit, or format please contact info@growinghope.net for more information.
5. VOL. NEEDED
Cookbooks, GH DVDs, music videos…hmmmm
We’re open to suggestions and looking for creative volunteers who want to share their talents. Maybe you’d like to collect recipes and create a GH gardener’s cookbook, how about creating a DVD of photos and interviews to document gardens and programs, or putting together a snazzy music video to remember the season. We know our volunteers are full of talents beyond wielding shovels and hand tools – so let us know! The season is coming for all those indoor projects and we love to work on some together… Please email Karen@growinghope.net with interest and ideas.
See you out and about,
Karen
