Greenhouse Up at Willow Run Alternative High School!!

Great news, all--

After working with Willow Run for 2+ years to get the greenhouse approved/established at Willow Run's Alternative High School, as of 3:30 pm today, it is finally erected at the Alternative program's new location at Thurston ECDC (off of Ecorse, in Ypsi Twp). YEA!

A lot of thank yous are in order! Thanks to the original inspiration & designs by the U-M Engineering students, led by Lorelle Meadows; and then to Cristy, Nate, & the WCC crew for erecting the frames; to Diana, Elissa, Tracey, & Michelle from the Growing Hope crew (past and present) who have helped to move the project along; (huge kudos to) TERRY CARPENTER, the lead WIllow Run teacher who has stayed confident and determined to see this project through; to Janice Moses for helping to keep the energy going; to Ginny & Dave, the other WR teachers who've been championing the project planning & implementation; to Bob the Builder who out of his volunteer generosity spent his day helping to erect the structure with expert hands; and to the awesome students of the WR Alternative High School program, who showed us all that they have the spirit & the ability to work hard, and work well, when put to a task and given the chance to prove themselves.

It's been a team effort, and a long time coming! The finishing touches, door, & polycarbonate will go up after the new year, but the students & teachers are ready and anxious to get growing. I was at East Middle School's greenhouse today, and despite the chilly breeze outside, that greenhouse was warm and toasty inside... With a simple structure, we really can help people grow, all year round.

THANK YOU ALL for your contributions to making this happen, and your general support and enthusiasm for Growing Hope! I hope you feel proud what you've helped accomplish. A few photos attached-- more available if you're interested!

Happy holidays,
Amanda
