Clifford the Truck Farm- Ypsilanti's own educational mobile garden!
"Clifford" is Growing Hope's exciting new venture into the world of mobile gardening and truck farming! As part of a national fleet of truck farms that began in Brooklyn, NY, Clifford takes the educate on of how to grow food throughout the community.
Clifford is, yes, literally a truck (1991 Ford F-150, named after Clifford the Big Red Dog) that has a garden growing in the back of it. Clifford's 5x8 foot raised bed, complete with a mini hoophouse shows just how much food you can grow in a small space. He also embodies the creativity of particularly urban growers-- using even the most non-traditional growing spots to show that despite a lack of space or open ground, anyone can find ways to grow food.
Before his 2011 conversion to a truck farm, Clifford helped Growing Hope install over 300 raised beds with low-income families, cart materials to set up the Downtown Ypsi Farmers' Market, and haul compost to develop the urban farm at the Growing Hope Center. With the addition of a new truck (Rosie) to the Growing Hope family,Clifford began his retirement in style, as an urban truck farmer.
